Lilit and The Wave Caves
Performance and Textile installation, 2023
Installation view at The Walker Art Center and The Armory Show, presented by Dreamsong

Hand-dyed and stitched boat sails, with acrylic paint, rope, printed silk, found fabrics, religious head covers, infant blanket

The Wave Caves (2022-2023), an immersive installation, creates a safe haven for Lilit, who was banished for pursuing independence. These monumental works, constructed of painted, hand-dyed and stitched boat sails, reference the medieval myth in which Lilit escapes to the Red Sea. In two performances Tamar Ettun will conjure and inhabit the persona of Lilit who will share her origin story from a feminist perspective and invite the audience to participate in somatic movement exercises designed to connect with their bodies and befriend their inner demons.

In performances activating the Wave Cave textile referencing the medieval myth in which Lilit escapes to the Red Sea, I conjured and inhabited Lilit, leading the audience in somatic exercises designed to embrace their bodies and demons.
